Whole House Renovation With One of a Kind Courtyard

In Philadelphia we are used to standard rowhouse widths. Fifteen feet, maybe eighteen or twenty if you’re lucky. At this location, two extra wide properties are combined to create a completely unique space. While there were only minimal windows on the side of the building before, we created a huge picture window and entrance (see below) in addition to the curtain wall shown above. The old factory floors were removed, new plumbing installed, as well as hydronic radiant heat. In the process we found an old Belgian block floor which we salvaged and used as the courtyard floor. The courtyard was created by cutting back the old roof to expose sky above. A Corten steel stair is as cool as sculpture, but can also take you up to the roof deck.
