Some interesting statistics in this month's Remodeling magazine comparing the payback of several upgrades to the average incentive offered from the government. Basically, we're incentivizing projects that create relatively few jobs more than those that create more jobs. For instance, according to a study by Efficiency First, 65% of the costs associated with an insulation project are labor costs compared to 15% for solar electric. Solar power deserves our support, but even your solar provider will tell you that the first step is to improve the efficiency of your home. Encourage your representatives to vote for incentives that provide jobs and favor more efficient homes overall. - Kenny |
